INSET and Training

INSET

I enjoy organising INSET for teachers and have given a range of talks, some of which are listed below:

(talks usually last about 1 hour - 1hour 20 mins with time allocated for Q&A. These can be given to whole staff meetings or can be repeated for smaller groups as required)

  • Dealing with difficult discussions (often with parents!)

  • Communicating effectively as a teacher in school

  • Time Management - an easy guide

  • How to use your PA/Secretary effectively

  • Using MidYis and Value Added data

Other topics are available, please contact me to discuss.

Training

There is no substitute for being shown how to do something and then practising the new skill with a friendly eye watching and helping to iron out problems. This is so difficult in the large "conference style" INSET; far more effective (and cost effective) to engage a trainer who has first hand experience of working in schools. I have worked with small groups and individuals and helped them to learn new skills and, more importantly, practise while still in the room to help with issues. All training can be tailored to your needs and is totally flexible.

Examples of previous training given are listed below:

  • Excel (help for those scared to use Excel for more than a table, help with Exam Statistics, Markbooks, Address databases, etc.)

  • Word (help to understand mail-merges, document templates, forms etc.)

  • Using MidYis and Alis data for Deputy Heads (Academic) - Setting up bespoke spreadsheets which can be used year on year

  • Using MidYis and Alis data for HODs - Using the data to help their department identify who needs what help and how their results stack up against other departments.

  • School Office Administration - Often the first point of contact but also often hampered by years of doing it the same way, I have experience in helping School Offices to become more stream-lined and efficient.

  • School Admissions Office - I have been involved in school admissions for over 15 years and can help yours by reviewing your current practice and suggesting how improvements can be made.

All training is very practical and centred around what the user actually requires rather than being generic. Other areas are possible, please contact me to discuss.

Departmental Review/Appraisal

The exact details of any departmental review would be discussed and agreed prior to the review taking place. But the following is an example of what could be covered.

  • to look at how a department is organised

  • to observe lessons

  • to look at pupils’ work

  • to review the departmental handbook and associated schemes of work

  • to review the department results

  • to make some recommendations

The feedback can be solely to the Senior Team or can include time with the HOD, mentoring and discussing ways to implement changes.

Teacher Training - Mathematics

In many Mathematics Departments there are good teachers who are wary of teaching topics out of their comfort zone.

I can provide help, either individually or in small groups, to extend their capabilities, giving the department far more flexibility when timetabling Mathematics classes.

Through a combination of on-site tutorials, followed up by online sessions, teachers can extend their knowledge and confidence to teach a wider range of A level topics – Pure, Mechanics and Statistics – at Mathematics A-level or Further Mathematics A-level.

Contact me to discuss your requirements.

Career Coaching

I have many years of experience recruiting staff in schools. I have a clear understanding of what employers are looking for and how candidates can present themselves most effectively. My personal, tailored advice can help aspiring teachers and leaders take the next step forward in their careers.

  • CV evaluation and writing advice

  • Interview techniques

  • Coaching and mentoring

  • Career planning reviews

Fees

Fee Structure

My aim is to provide value for money and to encourage repeat business.

With my flexible approach, once engaged - my time is yours. You can involve as many, or as few staff, as are available. Staff get individual focussed help on what they are trying to learn and they have a personal contact for follow up questions.

On-site Fees

My basic fee for on-site coaching, appraisal, reviews, INSET and other training is £495 per day (up to 6 working hours) or £300 per half day (up to 3 working hours).

This can be split between different activities. For example:

  • If an INSET talk was given in the morning, then the rest of the day could be given over to individual coaching or training for departments.

  • If I spent the morning getting your office staff better acquainted with mail-merges, the afternoon could be spent with some HODs looking at MidYis data.

Individual coaching and follow up (online or in person)

Individual coaching is charged at £75 per hour worked, plus expenses as required.

Expenses

Mileage is charged at £0.45 per mile.

Hotel Accommodation (if required), is charged at cost and I try to keep this to under £100 per night.

Any documentation produced to accompany an INSET, Training or appraisal/review is provided (electronically) free of charge.

All fees would be discussed and agreed before any work was undertaken.
